Dear Alumni, Faculty and Students of McMaster, This year, McMaster Music Council has been researching the additional $1,700 fee we are required to pay if we choose to take private lessons in third and fourth year. We have had complaints throughout the past few years of how students cannot afford to take lessons because of this additional fee. After researching this issue, we have discovered we are the only university in Ontario, and one of the few in Canada, who has such a high additional lesson fee. Most schools have none! This additional cost is unjust for us students as it seriously diminishes our ability to improve and develop as musicians. To learn more and excel on our respective instruments is one of the fundamental reasons why we choose to pursue music at the university level. Listed below are the terms that the students would like to see adhered to: Instrumental/ voice lessons provided at no additional cost in third and fourth year 1 hour of lessons per week for 2 terms Keep the amazing, professional instructors that are currently on staff On behalf of all McMaster Music students, we appreciate your support from the bottom of our hearts.
