Final supporters
We are concerned citizens of Glen Allen who want to to keep big box stores from ruining our historic neighborhood.
On August 28, 2015 a Plan of Development (POD) for the property located at the northwest corner of Mountain Road and John Cussons Drive was filed. The POD proposes a 9,734 square-foot Dollar General retail building.
The proposed plan has been distributed for review by County Agencies. The POD is currently scheduled for a public hearing by the Planning Commission at their December 10th meeting.
Let’s make our voices heard. We don’t need this on Mountain Road. Sign the petition below to maintain our historic community.

We have reached one hundred signatures which provides the necessary leverage for our formal correspondence with the Planning Commission. I am currently drafting a letter outlining our concerns regarding the zoning impact of this retail building. Expect a report on the agency review status once the next round of documentation is released.

We need to hit the one hundred signature milestone before we submit our formal protest letter to the planning commission. Achieving this target increases our leverage during the scheduled public hearing.

A Dollar General store, or any other chain store, does not fit in with the character of the "Old Glen Allen" community, much less the Deer Springs neighborhood. It will damage the attractiveness of the entrance to the neighborhood and add unwanted traffic on John Cussons Drive as well as Mountain Road.
Henrico County has supported the Old Glen Allen area in the past; Courtney Road Station and Forest Lodge anyone? Let's not ruin this authentic area with a cheap chain store in what is mostly an affluent neighborhood. There's a Dollar General just up the street for those who want to shop there.
Dollar store is the wrong business to bring to old Glen Allen. This is not a highly commercial area and when DS closes (which it probably will) due to lack of business, then we're stuck with an empty building. No no no! No Dollar Store in Glen Allen. Go over to Route 1.
The "historic" beauty of the neighborhoods will suffer. Increased traffic in an area where children play and senior citizens walk the nature trails would increase the possibility of more accidents.
I am all for business development in our community. However, given the proximity of the Virginia Center Commons Dollar General Store and the historical character of that location in Glen Allen I am opposed to this plan of development unless the architectural facade of the new structure would maintain the character of the area.
keep our community small, don't build this in the front of a neighborhood!
i do not think this store is in keeping with the character and residential/commercial use of the historic Mountain Road corridor.

This area does not need a Dollar General when there is one less than two miles away already. This is a small community with locally-owned businesses. We do not want or need a discount store in this neighborhood.
