Dear City Council,

The destruction of our beautiful homes must stop. While we promote new construction & development, San Marino has already been developed. Developers must go elsewhere to build their dream McMansions. We demand that the city protect our historic resources, in this case, the work of Beverly Hills architect Robert Finkelhor, whose CV includes Bob Hope's sprawling Toluca Lake estate as well as homes for Barbara Stanwyck, Harpo and Zeppo Marx, and Norma Talmadge.

From Zillow (https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1400-Circle-Dr-...): The circular driveway leads to this authentically restored Italian Revival estate. Designed by award-winning architect Robert Finkelhor. Magnificent 2-story entry leads into a spacious step-down living room, paneled library den, huge formal dining room, chef's double island kitchen with all top of the line appliances overlooks the large family room with floor to ceiling views of the grounds. The home has five bedrooms in more than 7,000 square feet and sits on over two-thirds of an acre.

Please sign the petition and send your comments to our city clerk requesting your written documented concerns to be made a part of the permanent record. The acting city clerk of the City of San Marino is Carol Cowley ([email protected]).

We must protect our historic and architecturally significant homes in San Marino to preserve the integrity of our community. Marian Rogers restored this home beautifully and it is ridiculous for anyone to think of demolishing it.

This is a stunning house with notable historical significance to San Marino. It adds to the architectural diversity that characterizes our city. I object to a tear-down of such a lovely structure to be replaced with a cookie cutter oversized monstrosity.

We have seen over 20 applications this year to tear down our community's significant architecture. This must stop before we lose our community's character and value.

In keeping with the architectural style the city of San Marino is known for. I firmly believe that this authentically restored Italian Revival estate should not be demolished only to erect a postmodern mansion style estate as you would see in community’s such as Arcadia, and other parts of the San Gabriel Valley.

As a Realtor active in this area for over 35 years, this is an outrage and completely inappropriate for San Marino. Please do not allow this destruction to occur. Please honor the history of San Marino.

I grew up on Circle Drive and fondly remember this beautiful home. It looks like it is still in incredible shape, so I can't imagine why anyone would want to tear it down. Please save!

Beautiful old buildings like this are a non-renewable resource. To lose them is to diminish our history as well as our aesthetic. And let's not send a message to future generations that says new construction is valued more than old construction.
