Elderly residents and people with low mobility have to walk a kilometer to the doctors surgery or the library because North Lanarkshire Council refuse to either open up an existing pathway or to build a new one. The shortest road route has areas with no pavement and a new development means this route is subject to heavy traffic, often travelling at speed to beat the newly installed traffic lights. We urge North Lanarkshire council to reconsider their refusal on the grounds of public safety and in the interests of vulnerable people in our community.

Updates

October 7, 2015

The level of engagement for this proposal has grown significantly over the past several days. This clear display of public concern demonstrates that the current lack of safe access is an urgent issue for our community. We are now preparing to present these developments to the council as evidence of the widespread need for a pathway.

My mother, who has mobility problems and attends the doctors surgery weekly, lives in Moray Place, either existing route is seriously too much for her if we are unable to take time off work to assist.

I live in Millbrae Avenue and having to walk ' the long way round the school boundary ' is just plain silly. A path through from Bothlyn Road is a must!

as an elderly and disabled person I think it would be common sense to open a shorter safer route for the residents of Chryston.

While North Lanarkshire Council take taxpayers money, the community suffers.

Common sense, consideration for elderly residents and their safety should prevail here.

Remember the people who have to live in this community with a bit more consideration for safety etc rather than saving a buck or two.

This pathway should never have been closed, the difficulty and the safety for pensioners and also disabled people should take 1st priority over idealism.
