We are a small group of grade 6/7 students from Surrey, British Columbia and we have created this petition to raise awareness about child poverty in B.C, and in Canada. When we started learning about child poverty we were overwhelmed with the amount of information that we could find about children living in poverty in Canada. It just doesn't seem real that so many kids are growing up in poverty in Canada, a country perceived around the world as one rich in opportunities, resources, and voted as one of the best countries in the world to live.
Campaign 2000: Twenty-six years ago, the House of Commons unanimously voted to end child poverty by the year 2000, but more children and their families live in poverty today than in 1989 when they made this vote. Right now there are over 1 Million children in Canada living in poverty. This is NOT an acceptable number!

I was looking at some of the new stories people are leaving in the comments and it honestly feels like a gut punch every time because these are just kids who deserve so much better. We have been collecting all this data to show the local office and it is kind of scary how much we have to organize but I think we are getting somewhere.
