We, the undersigned, call on Andrew Tyrie, MP for Chichester, along with Chichester District and West Sussex County Councillors, to promote the adoption of improvement proposals for the existing A27 rather than a new northern bypass around Chichester.

The through traffic using the A27 represents a small proportion of the overall traffic flow on the existing road compared with local traffic. Hence the existing and future rush hour congestion will only be solved by the upgrading of the existing A27. This will benefit the businesses in the City and the wider area to both the north and south of the City.

The feedback from local business owners keeps coming in. They agree that upgrading the existing road is the only practical solution for our congestion.

Publicity Officer for the Ramblers. our ramblers frequently walk in West Sussex. The proposed Northern routes would have a huge detrimental effect on the South Downs, where we enjoy many walks.

We have staff living on the peninsular and working in Portsmouth and they are always stuck in traffic accessing the A27. Option 2 or 6 will provide far improved access on and off the peninsular. Our staff do not feel that the Northern route will help them as most of the traffic is local.

Our print business would be severely affected by any change to Goodwood but would improve immensely by upgrading the existing A27

For me I would no longer be able to offer a location for people to come and stay and say it has tranquility and unspoilt views. Goodwood events would stop which I and many other people in this area rely on for future business. I may be small but would be greatly effected.

Some of our staff have to take ridiculously circuitous routes into work in the mornings. The north south access across the existing road has to be improved and that can only be achieved by upgrading the junctions.

The existing road needs improving. So much time is spent sitting in congestion. Most building merchants are on the industrial estates around the existing road, we could make 10-15 trips a week to them and have to sit in traffic because of a badly planned road. So the junctions need to be improved. A new bypass will have no benefit to us as a local business. They MUST improve the existing road.

A Northern bypass is not the solution to the well-known problems on the existing Southern bypass. Desecrating the area to the North of Chichester for ever is not the way forward. Something needs to be done, and that something is a proper upgrade of the existing Southern bypass
