Members of Downside School petition for the introduction of pockets within girls’ uniforms, specifically skirt pockets.
We intend for this to be implemented within our school uniform policy so that female students can safely place their tissues, phones as well as other essential items within accessible pockets in the uniform during the school day rather than carrying it around or placing it elsewhere.
We also consider it unfair that girls’ do not currently have accessible pockets within our current school uniform as girls’ blazers are only permitted to be worn in formal occasions whilst the boys’ uniform grants male students access to several pockets as part of their trousers and blazers.
We intend to eradicate this form of discrimination and increase a sense of equality within our school community through updating the girls’ uniform and granting female students access to pockets.
Therefore, we are requesting for an update to the girls’ uniform with the addition of pockets within skirts specifically. We would be grateful if you could sign this petition and accept our request.

Its honestly ridiculous that we have to carry bags everywhere just to hold a phone or a tissue. Boys have pockets in their trousers so why cant we just have them in our skirts? It shouldnt be this hard.
