This
petition addresses the problem of only getting three absences before your
exemptions are taken in the CFISD school district. Kids have been coming to
school sick and putting school before their health. This is unhealthy for them
and other students. The head of CFISD should consider making the policy more lenient
for special excuses. For example, if someone has the flu for a
week or if someone breaks their arm and has to be in the hospital.
These types of situations should be excused from the absence rule. I understand
that the absence rule is there because it motivates the kids to come to school, but it damages the learning environment for
students. The district should find a different way to motivate kids to come to
school and have exemptions based on the students grade not attendance.

Seeing all these people agree that missing school for the flu shouldn't ruin your entire semester has been wild because honestly I wasn't sure if anyone else felt the same way until now. The momentum is just spinning out of control in the best way possible and it makes me think we might actually be able to get someone at the district level to finally listen to us.

My friends brother was unable to exempt because he was hospitalized for a week. His lung collapsed.
Yeah sick days and funerals should be excused smh this kid lost his excemptions bc his mom passed away which is like totally unfair.
I'm a Family Nurse Practitioner and this makes sense. Excused absences due to illness should not penalize the student.
My daughter is diabetic. She cant go to school if her blood sugar isn't normal. Sometimes she has to be late or miss school.
You are absolutely right! I know so many parents that let their child go to school with a fever so they can ensure their exemption. It should be based on grades.
As someone who goes to multiple mandatory dr appointments it's nice to see someone finally doing something about this. Especially since we all know that the whole reason anyone makes a big deal about attendance is because the school will lose money for the lack of attendance of students. And because we REALLY need a couple more flat screen tvs that no one actually looks at or is in efficient use

I have health problems so bad I have to miss school to get surgery and a bad immune system and it’s unfair that I can’t exempt for something I can’t control
