Today is the day that we need to take action. It’s important for us students to act upon our 1st amendment right of free speech. We need to talk about the horrible incident that occurred April 3rd, 2019 that took place between two 8th grade students attending the Okaloosa County STEMM Academy. Both Ben Harkins and Emilio Salvador were injured by accidental falling, by means of which could have been avoided. The STEMM Academy basketball court has an Asphalt flooring, that has many cracks and crevices that can lead to injury. Though this incident between both Emilio and Ben is the most enlightening act that has prompted this change, it’s important to note that there have been a countless number of accidents caused by this flooring. We need to take a stand for both Ben and Emilio, so that these sorts of incidents will never occur again at the STEMM Academy. Please sign this petition today to change the Okaloosa STEMM Academy’s basketball court flooring to something safer for all students. Thank you for your time and consideration.

I myself do not attend this school but after hearing from multiple people what had occurred and being a basketball player myself, I would like to see changes made. A basketball court or a gymnasium or any sports complex should be where children’s, teens, and adults alike go to enjoy the nature of playing sports. Not a worry should cross their mind about wondering if a complex is safe enough to play on, because all they should worry about is having fun. Please make the change!!
