This petition is to change SB17-110. Parents, families, residents and childcare providers expect that our children's safety is a priority for CDHS.

SB17-110, as currently worded, would allow anybody to watch 4 kids legally without any minimum requirements, not even a background check.
We were told that this bill is designed to create more care options for CCCAP families as well as getting illegal childcare providers to come out of the dark and hopefully get licensed. The sad truth is that with the passing of the bill, as currently worded, many licensed providers will just go unlicensed. This bill could actually have the opposite effect of what the sponsoring Senators had in mind.
Therefore, we request the bill to be changed to ensure the safety of the children. We want to make sure that safe guards are put in place for children’s safety. We understand that there is need for more childcare! However, the safety of the children is of utmost importance in these crucial years of child development.
Every time something happens in an unlicensed childcare home, it falls back on licensed homes. They get a bad reputation, because the media only portrays these illegal providers as “childcare homes”. This puts daycare businesses in danger as well.
We need SB17-110 to include at least the following requirements:
- Register as an exempt provider with CDHS
- Pass Background Check
- CPR/First Aid/Infant Safety
- Safe Sleep
- A “no more than 2 under 2” ratio

This must be changed. This is placing children at risk. Childcare providers must have a background check and proper minimum training for CPR/First aid, Sids protections, safe sleeping at the very minimum.
I have been a Licensed Child Care provider for 38 years. The safety of all the children is the most important thing! If this passes there will be no background checks? Child abusers and molesters will be taking care of the children? No good!! Please, DO NOT LET THIS BILL SB17-110 PASS!
The person who cared for and abused my child was eventually put in jail, but I be not for long. I would hate to think she could care for children of others again if not background check required...and never fear being caught.
As a parent, I find the thought of an unlicensed provider looking after my child more than concerning. The lack of background checks in itself means you have no idea who is watching your child. That's terrifying.
I spent 6 months preparing, educating myself, and jumping all of the hoops required for my license. Sad that the state now feels like it means nothing. Maybe instead of compromising children's safety. Hire enough staff to get more providers licensed the right way.

I am appalled at this bill! I have been a Licensed Home provider for more than 30 years, The State has crammed down our throats the importance of quality child care, They created the Tier program for Colorado shines, we have to take 15 credit hours a year on top of all the mandatory classes such as Cpr and First aide, When we are inspected they go through our home and paperwork with a fine tooth comb, Now they are wanting people to watch up to 4 kids without all these regulations? Unbelievable, What is going to stop Chester the molester from opening an unlicensed child care? How is the State going to regulate who is watching these kids, and what is most disturbing is who does these background checks to make sure someone with an unfavorable background doesn't take advantage of this loophole and watch more than 4 kids? Ridiculous!
