We all stood together and let Eldora know that we want children to be safe on chairlifts. Now we can do it again! Currently, there is a bill on the senate floor regarding chairlift safety.
Please sign and support the fight to keep our children safe on chairlifts.
This is what we are asking for:
We would like Bill SB 19-159 to be amended to include that the Passenger and Tramway Safety Act will be revised. We would like the revisions to include
-Regulations regarding a height and age requirement for children to ride chairlifts unattended.
-Special considerations for loading and unloading children from chairlifts.
-Requirements for safety bars for young children.
-Description of the duties for lift operators.
We also request that Bill SB 19-159 be amended to include that the board will:
-Provide transparency in data reporting.
-Assign board members who do not have a financial interest in the ski industry.
-Prohibit board members from accepting free day passes or any other gifts from ski resorts.
After you sign, please call the legislators below and say, "We want SB 19-159 amended."

My daughter fell off a chairlift at Eldora. She never got properly seated because the girl next to her got her poles stuck in the chair frame. My kid held on as long as she could, but ultimately fell 25 feet, breaking her ankle. It could have been much worse as she landed within 5 feet of an exposed t-post. There was one lift operator, who was completely oblivious to everyone screaming and yelling at my kid hanging off the chair. He never did stop the lift.
All chair lifts in the state should have safety bars. If cities can require your backyard deck to have a railing, why can't they require a simple safety bar on something that goes upwards of 50 feet in the air?
My 6 yr old loves skiing, but, is now afraid he's going to fall off of the lifts. Please, help us to keep skiing safe and fun.
We have all kinds of height and age requirements for other activities (water slides, roller coasters, car seats), I don't think it would be too much of a shock to the system to add height and age requirements for children riding without adults. Adults seem necessary as chaperones until children can safely reach the bar and lower it without having to strain. And please, bars on all lifts. Adults like them too!
We love to have our kids out skiing but don't want them exposed to dangerous practices. Legislation to keep kids safe is smart actions and ski resorts won't necessarily spend the money for extra staff or equipment upgrades unless forced.
Hey, dum dum. Driving is inherently dangerous, too. Do you think we should ditch seatbelt requirements?
I agree.

It is sad that we need a bill to ensure our kids safety at the mountains. But I 100% support this bill if it means our children will be kept safe. Given the increased numbers at the mountains, the lack of training of the lifties, the young ages of the lifties, parents are only trying to do what we can to ensure our kids have the ability to continue to learn to ski at a young age, but safely. Thank you for your consideration.
