Against the change in hours. We want school hours to stay as 9am to 3.30pm for the good of the community and our children.

Pentyrch Pimary is proposing to change its school session times. School currently starts at 9am and finished at 3.30pm.
The proposal is to start school at 8.45am and finish at 3pm.
(breakfast club at 8am)
There is a meeting being held 2 June at 6.30pm at the school. After the meeting the governors will be voting on the proposals. The changes will take effect from 1st September 2014. This petition will be presented at the meeting in order to show the governing body the strength of feeling.

The school is proposing to offer some after school clubs and home work clubs Monday to Thursday but these are not confirmed and would not be able to cater for a lot of pupils, meaning parents will still have to find permant child care after school. Friday is not being catered for. A private school club that parents have to pay for up until 6pm is proposed but again not confirmed to try and cover this.
This proposal for changed hours will prevent many parents from picking their children up from school, it will alienate parents and disengage them from school life.
Pentyrch is a fantastic village, has a good school, shops etc, and is attractive to families. The change is school hours is not in the communities interest.
Issues

1. Parents will not be able to pick their children up from school and so the parent school relationship is lost
2. The children will have reduced break times, meaning they need to concentrate for longer periods. This has been proven to be detrimental to their learning.
3. Parents dropping off to school and nursery will have a15 minute wait on a busy main road, that often has speeding commuters on it..
4.
