We, the undersigned, are concerned parents who urge Wilder Penfield Elementary School to act now to maintain the Daycare hours of operation from 7am opening time to 6pm closing time, to help working parents benefit from Wilder Penfield's on-site childcare services.
Background: 2016/2017 Daycare services’ OPENING and CLOSING times on PEDDAYS are being changed. Morning drop off /opening time will be 7:30 am instead of 7am. Afternoon closing time will be 5:30pm instead of 6pm.
This change will be very inconvenient when there is traffic, inclement weather, when parents work late, when parents work downtown, and force daycare users to change their current schedules.
Our Daycare services should accommodate their customers' schedules. The hours of operation to 6pm should be maintained to help working parents benefit from Wilder Penfield's on-site childcare services.

The school administration keeps dodging our questions about why they think parents can just shift their entire work schedules on a dime. I am tired of waiting for a real answer while they ignore the massive stress this puts on every working family here.

This incentive completely disregards the reality of working parents that do not have the luxury of adapting their hours randomly to the whims of their childrens' school. I feel that if we considering the fact that we must also pay for a "mandatory" activity so that we can go to work on ped days ($25/child to "camp" in the gym), we've entered the realm of the ridiculous. From my experience in other communities in Montreal, none of this would fly.
Ped days should be like any other day where we have until 6pm to get our children. just because it is a ped day does not mean that parents can get to school any earlier than they normally do. thank you
So typical of the WP administration. Removing and downgrading services instead of adding and improving, trying to force change with no communication as opposed to consulting with the actual users.
I support the school in every way I can. I was on the street picketing in support of our teachers, I volunteer every chance I get and many parents do the same. I am tremendously disappointed with the GB vote in opposition to our parents, changing the PED DAY drop off and pick up time change. I am looking for your support this time in maintaining the status quo.
very inconvenient for parents who work downtown. my office hours are Monday to Friday 8:30 to 5. I leave "early" at 4:45 to catch the 4:50 train home. I arrive anywhere between 5:35 and 5:40 depending on weather. and that's assuming the train doesn't stall somewhere. These hours are for everyday weekday..my office does not make exceptions for school PED days.
Work usually ends at 5. With traffic this pick-up time is ridiculously unattainable for most poeple. Thank you.

Working parents that end at 5pm would have serious issue getting to pick up by 5;30. Not everyone can leave early-some work downtown. Even working in St laurent, 30minutes at rush hour is difficult. Daycare is for thise people that need childcare so they can continue to work-and shortening the hours does not allow for that.
