Change Boehm’s dress code
Charles Boehm Middle School is recognized for its kindness, character, and enthusiasm. Students at Boehm are provided with amazing teachers and outstanding activities. For what could be wrong about Boehm? The dress code. Students are being restricted to express themselves through their outfits, and they are being taken out of education for being such a “distraction” and sexualizing them to cover up or boys will not be able to learn. As a current 8th grader at Boehm, I have followed the dress code as much as I could. Yet, the school still found ways to make me feel inhuman, restricted, and foolish. The current dress code at Boehm is not allowing student express themselves, or be comfortable coming to school. I was told “you may express yourself outside of school, but not in school” by my discipline area teacher. If Boehm is truly a school of character, why take students out of their education simply because they are dressed the way the feel most comfortable?
