The Baytown Sun reported in June of 2013: “City of Baytown: Council paves way for new movie theater...State-of-the-art facility to be part of Chambers Town Center development...Baytown is well on its way to getting a new movie theater in the planned Chambers Town Center development at Interstate 10 and Highway 146."
Well, not so fast.... UPDATE – December 16, 2013
Theater companies are not interested in the Chambers Town Center due to the fact that we have a local theater at San Jacinto Mall.
Brad Elmore with New Quest Development Properties stated: “[We] would prefer a theater..., but we are having a hard time getting the theater companies to understand the extent to which your community avoids the San Jacinto Mall.”
If you would like to see a new theater in our area, please sign this petition and please pass this on to all your friends and neighbors!!!
NewQuest Properties has also stated that mid to high end retailers are not interested in the center because they require a “five-mile radius in population in excess of 100,000 people”. They do not understand that there are many who would travel from further than 5 miles to shop at this location if the stores were worth the drive. Nicer stores that we don't already have in Baytown are not really interested in our new town center because they think there won't be enough business.
If you would like to know more about other stores that are coming or not coming to the Chambers Town Center, please feel free to contact Brad Elmore with NewQuest Properties at 281.477.4300. The website is http://www.newquest.com/property/Details/460/Chambers-Town-Center.

I have been busy emailing these responses to NewQuest to prove exactly why we refuse to settle for the San Jacinto Mall. They need to see that we are not just complaining but are organized in our demand for a better local experience.

Seeing this momentum grow proves that our community is tired of being overlooked by developers. You are finally showing the people in charge that we deserve better than the current options at the mall.

San Jacinto Mall has been in ruin for years. We would LOVE new places to shop on I-10. I do go to the mall for movies but it is only because it is close. I would rather go to a better theater that is better taken care of. Please give us another choice!
Please do a little research on how many people actually support the theatre at the mall and the area they live in. Our family drives to 45/BW 8 to a theatre. The 146 location would serve many communities. Hopefully the demographics will be reviewed again!
Not only do I believe that this community can support an IMAX theater it would give our students and young adults a place to work.
I NEVER go to the theater at San Jacinto, i've been there several times in the past and the movie would just stop in the middle and they would start over. It's taken me 3.5 + hours to watch a movie before because of issues with the electricity..I don't even bother anymore!
Mont Belvieu is growing quickly and the community needs high end stores and a movie theatre. Many people would enjoy going there to shop or enjoy a movie instead of dealing with the congestion in the Baytown area.
It would be awsome if they would build a IN&OUT Burgers, here in the chambers county also And yes it's great that we are about to have a nice movie theater Here in the chambers county its about time. !!!!!!!!
I want a safer cleaner theater for our family
