For years, the community has been a tremendous support for our commitee's fundraising efforts in order to revitalize Cantley Village Park and build a new accessible playground.

This past year, we received some significant grant funding that has placed us closer to our goal. Thanks to the most recent funding granted to us in the form of a $60,000 Nova Scotia Recreation Facilities Development Grant, we now have the funds to be able to purchase and install all of our playground equipment and to complete work on our outdoor skating rink! (We are still short on the funding required to install rubber surfacing, however, this can be installed next year once we have raised the additional $50,000 money we need - for now, pea gravel will be a fine short-term alternate).

However, the Cape Breton Regional Municipality brought to our attention in 2017 that the park property actually has two deeds on it, so the land's actual owner is in dispute. CBRM and the land owner have tried to work out a solution, but right now, they are at an impasse.

We have already raised a significant amount of funding:

  • NS Health Community Board Wellness Fund: $1,700
  • CAN Enabling Accessibility Fund: $47,000
  • NS Support4Sport Grow Your Game Contest: $11,000
  • NS Recreation Facilities Development Grant: $60,000

We don't want to disappoint our awesome community, who have supported this project for so long - and we're not going to give up.

If you support our cause, and want to see Cantley Village Park revitalized, please sign our petition, spread the word to your family and friends, and keep enjoying Cantley Village Park as you have been in the past.
