Our children are precious, fragile and innocent. As a community, we should all strive to protect the wellbeing of all children. Our elected politicians and bureaucrats who represent the community should do the same. Unfortunately, the wellbeing of our children is at risk.
Monash Council has decided that it is acceptable to expose young impressionable minds to Drag Queens by arrogantly proceeding with 'Drag Storytime' for 1-6 year old children at Oakleigh Library despite community objections.
Drag Queens are typically male people, dressed as women, in provocative outfits and exaggerated make-up. Many people perceive Drag Queens as adult entertainers who appear in pubs and bars, sometimes with a sexual connotation. Sam T, the Drag Queen who plans to read to young children at Oakleigh Library, has admitted on 3AW that the purpose of 'Drag Storytime' has a "deeper meaning" for children.
As parents we know the challenges of raising children. We know children need to be educated but they also need to be protected from concepts they are too young to understand. It is not appropriate for young children to be exposed to Drag Queens.
We have raised our concerns with Monash councillors but they refuse to listen. Our voices as women and as parents is being dismissed and ignored.
Regardless of your race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation or gender, please help us send a message to Monash councillors and Oaklegh Library. Let them know that the community wants to protect all children and strongly objects to 'Drag Storytime' for 1-6 year old children at Oakleigh Library.
Leave our kids alone, let our kids be kids.

I have spent this week drafting a formal letter to the Monash Council members requesting a meeting to discuss our specific objections. I am currently awaiting a reply regarding their availability to address these concerns on the record.

Drag is inherently sexual. LGBT representation can still be present in a non-sexual way so we can have genuinely inclusive activities and a representative community without compromising children
Far from okay subjecting children of this age to this sort of behaviour. I’m all from story time, however strongly disagree it being done by a person in drag. I don’t want council pushing their agenda onto our children.
Drag queens and children should not be a thing. This is exploitation. Why can’t someone be dressed up as a childs favourite character from a movie or storybook if that’s what you want? Drag queens should have NOTHING to do with a child.
I love taking my kids to the library. It was a safe space. Obviously times have changed and not for the better. Just looking down the streets shows a different world but not a better one.
Why can’t they have these events in the Victorian Pride Community Centre, instead of needing to expose people in the community that don’t feel comfortable with watching a sexualised man dressed as a woman reading a book to children. Would make sense if there was no hidden agenda.
Why is the Government allowing this to happen. This is absolutely wrong and should not be accepted.

Why promote this? What good does this serve? Why not have a veteran read a book with ANZAC day coming? Or a grandparent? Or a freighter? Not some one whose hobby it is to dress like a caricature of a woman and perform for others for entertainment or sexual gratification.
