The administration officially moved all exams online. I am exhausted by this fight but relieved that common sense finally prevailed. Keep an eye on the transition to ensure they actually follow through on this promise.

Dear KU Leuven Campus Brussels administration,

The current crises has put a lot of stress on the students, not only because of the uncertainty but also for possible health issues for the students, their friends, and family.

The student body and its student societies have never been so united. There is an overwhelming majority of students who do not find it safe to agglomerate around campus during these stressful times, even considering the extra hygiene methods put in place and that exams are planned for the month of June. The same group of people also perceive that all students should be treated equally, and believe it is not possible to have a perfectly fair double standard evaluation system like the one that is proposed.

This petition is to ask KU Leuven Campus Brussels to have a universal online based examination method for all courses, regardless of whether the students are physically able or not to attend exams on campus.

We believe that neighbouring universities in Brussels, such as Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Université Catholique de Louvain, have made the right decision in transferring their exams online and we implore the KU Leuven administration to do the same.

Below features a list of students who have signed our petition. We certainly hope that it will help make the administration change their decision.

Best regards,

KU Leuven student representatives.

The emails I get from you about the toll this health anxiety is taking are heavy, and they confirm exactly why we need to keep pushing for an online option. I am spending my evenings drafting formal requests to the administration even though the outlook feels bleak right now. We are not backing down until they acknowledge that these on campus exams are a risk we should not be forced to take.

In my opinion, KU Leuven is being stubborn and inconsiderate. It is not just the exam auditorium itself but students have to use public transportation (bus, train etc.) to get to the campus.

All my friends and acquaintances attending other universities told me that their exams have either been moved online (for all students) or cancelled and normal activities will only take place in July the earliest and this timeline is even uncertain. I really do not understand KU Leuven's insistence on having on-campus exams.

If online exams are good enough for some students, they should be good enough for all. Do not make us risk our health coming into university.

You can't initially act politically correct by saying we need to flatten the curve only to then prompt us to risk undoing that process.

Just an example: in my home country, Lebanon, we have to reset the wifi connection every hour or so and there is no fix to this because all services are down and the country is undergoing a financial crisis since long before the virus.

I am strongly against the fact that my daughter would have to sit in a class for exams she could take online as the vast majority of Belgian students. But having her taking risks by being on a train or metro is truly unacceptable.
