The UK government finally came to their senses and selected Campbeltown as the site for the UK Spaceport. This win proves that when we force them to look at the facts they have no choice but to acknowledge the obvious. We forced their hand and won.

The UK Government will soon be selecting a site to become the UK’s Spaceport. Campbeltown Airport, Glasgow Prestwick, and Newquay and RAF Llanbedr are the main contenders
We believe that Campbeltown Airport is the best site for the UK Spaceport because:
1) It is the only site with a runway that is excess of the required 3,000 metres
2) It is in an area of low population density – but is only a 30 minute flight from Glasgow International Airport
3) There are regular commercial flights in and from the airport
4) It has unrivalled available airspace
5) It has good on-site infrastructure and over 1,000 acres available for development
6) It has already been approved twice for space flight, once by NASA and once by Virgin Galactic
Therefore, we call upon the UK government to select Campbeltown as the site for the UK Spaceport.

The government continues to ignore the obvious technical superiority of Campbeltown Airport while they drag their feet on a decision. We are pushing hard behind the scenes to force them to acknowledge that NASA already proved this site is the best choice for a spaceport. Their silence is a blatant insult to our region and we have no intention of letting them sweep our bid under the rug.

Campbeltown airport is the most suitable location of all those on the shortlist for the space-port and should be selected without any political influences.
The economy in this small town is in need of a new venture and this would be an ideal site as it is fairly remota but also central and accessable.Please put Campbeltown back in the job market the place went into decline when the Nato base closed down and recovery has been an uphill struggle since.
Machrihanish is the obvious choice for the Spaceport. Unfortunately due to the fact that the Scottish Government own Prestwick Airport the odds are stacked in its favour of getting it!
It makes the most sense, given the dimensions of a runway in excess of 3,000 metres, low volume of population, clear airspace and the fact it has been approved by NASA.
This is the single most poweful opportunity for the transformation of the entire Argyll economy, The Machrihanish Airbase Community Company's case for selection - and objectively this is the best and most future-proofed site - must be as powerful as this opportunity - and that case must be heard.

It is the only bid that is futureproof against the large rise in population projected over the next 50 years which is unlikely to affect Argyll.
