I would love to hear the tv casually mention flights coming into Machrihanish space port

This would bring a major boost to an area of low employment,also as already stated else where the runway lends itself to a quick set up relatively speaking.It is also not surrounded by a densely populated area.

This runway was built in the late 1950's and at the time was the longest in Europe. Campbeltown would make a good hub
