The Government owns 43.4% of Lloyds Banking Group, with their backing we may be able to overturn the decision to close Essex House by Lloyds Banking Group.

On Thursday 9th May, I along with 850 other employees of Lloyds Banking Group were told without warning that we would lose our jobs in December. We were told a decision had been made by the bank not to renew the lease on Essex House. As a result, all staff at the site will lose their jobs. Essex house is currently the home of Telephone Banking and Fraud Operations. Employees at Essex House feel this decision is completely unjustified, immoral and must be overturned. If you have been effected by this decision or simply do not agree with it, please sign the petition to help campaign against the closure of Essex House. We currently have just short of 8 months before Essex House closes and is no longer a LLoyds Banking Group site.

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council says, "We are appalled that Lloyds Banking Group has chosen to communicate this large loss of jobs with the Council only once it has made its decision. We understand that Job Centre Plus were not informed at all of this news, which I find almost breathtakingly poor communication given the circumstances."

Lloyds Trade Union says, "We are calling upon the whole Southend community – customers, politicians, council, businesses and the media to join us in vigorously opposing the closure of Essex House."

The scale of this response confirms we have the necessary leverage to challenge bank leadership. I am currently organizing a formal meeting with local representatives to present our case for reversing this site closure.

Loyalty means nothing to these big corporations apparently. Hope people actually fight this

This is going to kill the local economy in Southend. Families rely on those wages and the bank just doesnt care about the people making them their profits

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. How can they just drop 800 staff without even talking to the council first. This needs to stop now.

My wife works there and we are stressed out of our minds. Thanks for nothing Lloyds.

850 people just like that? Right before Christmas too. Disgraceful behavior from a bank that we basically bailed out with our own tax money.
