There was a tragic fatality when a 20-year old student was knocked from her bike and killed in early April. More than three months on TfL, who control this main road, show no signs of actlng. Deplorably, TfL has never implemented the improved safety measures proposed as a result of the big consultation exercise in 2005. They appear more concerned for the speed of their buses than for public safety.
The accident record on Camden Road is very poor. Safety at both the junctions with St Pancras Way and Royal College Street is appalling for pedestrians and cyclists alike. Painting green box advanced stop lines for cyclists is not enough.
What is needed is a four-way pedestrian green traffic sequence at both junctions.
This is a cross-party initiative calling for improved safety.
We the undersigned DEMAND that TfL act swiftly.
Paul Braithwaite, Angela Mason and Phil Jones
Cantelowes ward Councillors
I spent the morning staring at those same dangerous corners and it is just infuriating how little has changed since that consultation way back in the day. We are still pushing the council and TfL behind the scenes but the silence on their end is extremely loud right now. It feels like they are just waiting for us to stop paying attention but I really do not think that is going to happen.

I cycle this road every single day to get to work and it is terrifying. Buses fly past way too close. Fix it before someone else dies.

My son uses this route to school. I worry every morning. Why does it take a tragedy for them to care?

Paint on the road does nothing. We need real lights and protected space for bikes. Camden Road is a death trap.

Ridiculous that they haven't done anything since 2005. People's lives are worth more than a few minutes kept on a bus schedule. Do your job TfL.
