18 days. 878 signatures to go. Please help us get there. The Tulse Hill one-way road system is roughly 10 times more dangerous per metre than the Lambeth road average. Three people have sadly been killed here since 2013 with many more seriously injured or traumatised by their experiences. More people in our community will be affected if nothing changes. This isn't 'bad luck' but because of the dangerous 1960s road layout that TfL has been aware of for decades, promised to fix it, but still hasn't. In fact, this isn't even the first petition on this issue. Back in 2013, a community petition presented to the London Assembly asked then Mayor Boris Johnson to prioritise the gyratory for improvement. The Mayor's response then promised TfL had 'earmarked £5m in provisional funding for the area in its Business Plan' with design work 'already started.' Thirteen years on, with more lives sadly lost and many left with life-changing injuries, that funding was never delivered and no genuine community-informed design work took place. Now, TfL has told Transform Tulse Hill that 'full gyratory removal could be a long-term goal, for example in twenty or more years' - while admitting 'we do not have this as a specific goal.' So here we are again - handing in yet another petition, asking for the same thing: to fix the gyratory. We've confirmed a new date for handing it over: Tuesday 6th October. We will present it in person to Assembly Member Marina Ahmad, who will submit it to Sadiq Khan via the London Assembly for a formal response from the Mayor and TfL. We are at 1,622 signatures and want to reach 2,500 before heading to City Hall - our final push. Dear neighbour, Transform Tulse Hill has been working hard behind the scenes and wanted to give you an update on our campaign to make the dangerous one-way road system here safer. Our petition is being submitted on Tuesday 6th October to the Mayor of London via the London Assembly. We had aimed for 1,500 signatures and still have 230 names to go to hit this target - so please share the petition link https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/a-call-on-the-mayor-to-fix-the-tulse-hill-gyratory/ with friends, family and neighbours, and post it in your local WhatsApp groups and other online forums. Every signature counts. The petition will be presented at a future Plenary meeting of the full London Assembly, with a formal response then required from the Mayor and TfL. We'll make that response available on our website at https://transformtulsehill.org.uk/ as soon as we have it. Where things stand: Following our meeting with TfL's senior officers in May, we put a series of detailed questions to them in writing, and TfL has responded. There's genuinely positive news: a comprehensive VivaCity AI-powered sensor network has been installed across the gyratory, capturing vehicle speeds, pedestrian and cyclist flows and, crucially, near-miss incidents. When the data is made available, this should give us the clearest picture yet of how dangerous this junction really is. But we have real concerns too. We don't yet know if monitoring has started, whether the data will be shared with us as it's collected, or what happens to the sensors once the six-month period ends in Spring 2027. No budget currently exists for transforming the gyratory, and TfL has suggested a full transformation could be "twenty or more" years away - a major downgrade from what was previously promised to the local community. Furthermore, our ask for safer, timed pedestrian crossings hasn't been taken forward. We firmly believe that Tulse Hill should be treated as the road safety issue it is, and funded accordingly. TfL's own prioritisation process ranks it 7th out of 13 comparable gyratories on TfL's own assessment - and so we're continuing to press TfL for action. We're also writing to Lambeth's Council Leader and Deputy Leader to invite them to come and walk around the gyratory with us, and asking the council to support Tulse Hill's nomination for the next phase of TfL's 4D radar camera rollout so that there can be actual enforcement of speeding, as well as explore what further interim safety measures could be developed alongside TfL. It is vital that the people who live around the area, those who use the gyratory regularly, and local businesses are fully involved in any discussions or decisions about its future. We are pleased that there is cross-party support for this, with four local ward councillors, the council's Leader and Deputy Leader, three MPs and the local Assembly Member all publicly supporting the TTH campaign. The campaign has come a long way over the last few years, raising road and pedestrian safety to the top of the agenda locally, at the council, and within TfL itself. None of this would have happened without you. Hundreds of you have shared your own stories about how the gyratory road system has affected you and your loved ones.
