Keep The South Calcutta Lakes accessible to Dogs
The Commissioner of Police Calcutta Police Calcutta This is an effort to enlist your support in keeping the South Calcutta Lakes (Rabindra Sarovar) accessible to pet dogs. During the last few weeks, a group of people have taken to rudely accosting dog-owners and ‘ordering’ them out of the Lakes. Many, repelled by the sheer unpleasantness of the incidents, have fled. These people have neither any right to ban pet dogs from the lakes nor to disturb the peace by acting like ruffians. You will agree that a small minority of disagreeable people cannot be allowed to impose their will on a public space at the cost of dogs and dog-owners who have not caused any harm to anybody. Please therefore arrange to provide protection against such uncivil and threatening behaviour. If you should consider banning pet dogs from the Lakes, please also ensure that our voices are heard. Thank you for your cooperation.
