Waukesha County is a wonderful place to live and raise a family with great schools, excellent parks, open space, and wonderful neighborhoods.

But plans are now underway to expand and build a 4 lane highway through the west side of the Town and City of Waukesha linking I94 on the north to Hwy 59 on the south, through residential neighborhoods, and wetlands. This huge highway project would drastically and negatively impact the quality of life of the thousands of people who live along, and within, the proposed bypass routes; would change traffic patterns within residential neighborhoods making pedestrian travel more hazardous; would degrade wetlands and environmentally sensitive areas; would increase noise, water, and air pollution, while simultaneously, adversely, and permanently affecting the health and longevity of residents. Tens of MILLIONS of State of Wisconsin residents' tax dollars will be spent to complete the WEST Waukesha Bypass project, a project estimated to run upwards of $53 million - all of which is to be paid by city, county, and state funds.

We can change these plans now, by convincing elected officials in Waukesha County, the City of Waukesha, the Town of Waukesha, and the State of Wisconsin that with modest safety improvements on current roads, tens of millions of dollars can be saved, safety improved, rural residential neighborhood atmosphere and welfare preserved, the environment saved from drastic degradation, and most if not all project goals met.

This highway expansion, or "Bypass" project is not needed, and will never do what it was intended to do when it was mapped SIX decades ago…bypass the City of Waukesha. This huge road expansion project does not bypass anything.

Tell County, City, Town, and State officials that you support a "No Build. Improve!", option!

Follow existing roads along County X and Sunset to TT (Sunset-to-X Alternative).

Maintain two lanes along the entire route within the current two lane footprint.

Add left hand turn lanes where needed.

Add stop signs or lights, reduced speed limits, and improved signage where needed for safety reasons.

Build a bike path to connect the Glacial Drumlin Trail to the Lake Country Trail.

Improve the Madison TT intersection to minimize steep hill to stop.

Consider a bridge over the RR Tracks and Glacial Drumlin Trail.

Minimize any loss of wetlands or primary environmental corridor. Improve stream crossings to minimize road runoff into streams.

Limit Gross Vehicle Weight to 8 tons (16,000 pounds) along the entire route.

Consider any other modest safety improvements along current routes.

De-map the concept of a Waukesha West Bypass and cease any future bypass planning on any of the previously or currently proposed alternatives.

My family watches this petition climb toward five hundred signatures with real hope because our local roads and wetlands are worth protecting. Please text this link to three people who live in our neighborhood so we can hit this milestone today.

Seeing one hundred neighbors join this fight to protect our homes and wetlands means the world to me. My family moved here for the peace of this area and I will not watch that be paved over for an unnecessary highway.

Owner in Dover Bay. Noise will be a very large issue. Homes near I94 already up for sale. Improve our local roads, not increase noise and remove homes for marginal gain at most.

I live in Kame Terrace. If you take at the bypass plans,it is going through 80% residential area. They are not considering how much land they will be taking away from the front yards of homeowners. The noise of trucks and the fumes from exhausts will be unbearable. The property values will not increase in the future....only their taxes will increase to pay for this DOT disaster plan!

Please consider the obvious fix which would only take putting up stop lights on the intersection of Madison and tt . What a quick , inexpensive way to eliminate the back up. Please preserve what the town of Waukesha has kept so nice. The beautiful wetlands.

It's very upsetting to see country roads widened resulting in the destruction of beautiful countryside, especially if the traffic is not unreasonably heavy. It turns the peaceful countryside which residents enjoy into a more urban environment. Quantity seems to be prioritized over quality in Waukesha road construction. I would hope if enough residents in the area oppose the bypass the project can be put down.

I live near the proposed bypass, and the traffic is manageable with the present setup. It's time to protect our environmental resources or we will lose the quality of life that attracts people to this area. A strong environment begets a strong economy and quality of life.

It would destroy a 40 acre woods which has been preserved for many years and in the State Forest management program for over 20 years
