Urgent Call to Action

We strongly urge TxDOT to immediately revise the current IH‑35 / I‑14 plan. Belton deserves infrastructure improvements that strengthen our community not ones that threaten its future. The proposed plan would eliminate the Mainstreet, Central Street, and 6th Street exits, putting Belton at risk of the same significant and devastating decline seen in other Texas cities where bypasses were built, such as Troy, Hillsboro, and Hearne.

Key Concerns

  • Economic Impact: Belton stands to lose hundreds of millions of dollars in economic activity over the next decade, including lost growth revenue, reduced sales tax, small business closures, and declining property values.
  • City Services: The loss of sales and property tax revenue will directly affect funding for essential services like police, fire, and parks.
  • Future Investment: The plan discourages future investment and stunts long-term growth. Responsible development is crucial for a prosperous future and for maintaining vital infrastructure.
  • Safety: Emergency response times will increase especially in South Belton, when every minute counts.
  • Quality of Life: Traffic congestion is already a major issue and will worsen as residents are forced to use fewer accessible routes, lowering the overall quality of life.

Our Requests

  • A revised plan that protects Belton’s economy, ensures resident safety during emergencies, improves quality of life, and keeps Belton connected.
  • Genuine collaboration with residents, businesses, and city leadership.

Having the only exit a mile or more from the current exit does not seem reasonable at all. Retaining 2, if not all 3, exits should be done. I would like to know more about the Braided On/Off ramps. Where is that schematic? Belton is the county seat and access to downtown should NOT be hard. Respectfully, Carole Cortinez

The City of Belton needs these exits. Businesses will suffer. Roads will be altered making it harder to get around in some neighborhoods leading to longer response time of First Responders.

This change will create a huge inconvenience for my husband and I. We drive to Salado every morning. Without the exit for 6th ave and on ramp near central, it will add atleast 5 minutes to our 15 commute.

I work in this area as well as live here, no way is this going to be beneficial to our town. I have watched business off loop 121 close just from the new direction of traffic flow. Now this would crush us

I'm the owner of The Greenbriar Salon & Spa and can say that i have put my life into my business. This would have a major impact on future business and accessibility.

Our city needs safer traffic flow without negating economic advantages! Don’t relegate Belton to be an interstate pass-through but a necessary visit.
