The Council has confirmed the reversal of these parking changes and the introduction of free short stay periods. This outcome reflects the persistent effort of everyone who questioned the logic of the previous policy. We will observe the implementation closely to ensure these benefits remain accessible to our community.

Brentwood Borough Council has recently made major changes to parking in Brentwood and Shenfield. These changes have seen the price to park in some Council owned car parks rise by more than 117%. Previously residents could park for 1 hour in Brentwood for just 60p. That is now no longer the case!

So here are the facts, the new parking charges introduced in February 2013 include the following

Removal of the 1 hour parking rate of 60p for residents

Introduction of £1.30 minimum rate, including those who stay for just 30 minutes

The replacement of parking machines purchased for over £24,000 in 2010.

44% of short stay parkers will be hit by this new stealth tax

Brentwood First believe that this wrong, which is why we have launched a petition to campaign against these changes. We believe that to support residents, local businesses and to encourage people to Brentwood the Council should reverse these changes and introduce 30 minutes free parking across Brentwood.

The feedback from local business owners has been eye opening as they describe how these sudden price hikes impact their daily foot traffic. This ongoing conversation confirms that our community values accessible parking far more than the council seems to appreciate.

Reaching this level of support confirms that the community shares a deep frustration regarding the recent parking hikes. The momentum behind our request for fair pricing reflects a genuine desire to protect the vibrancy of our local shops and streets.
