New windows will not affect the look of the building, but will enhance the stay of the guests visiting Rothesay. Bute needs visitors and their comfort is important - I know I frequently visit and new window make a difference particularly in the winter and if you usually live in a warmer climate.

I too am a staunch supporter of maintaining the integrity of the architecture, however common sense has to prevail. The square is in a terrible state, although the THI is doing great works to improve it. UPVC on this building will not detract it will enhance in this instance.

The hotel was my "hard to heat" home in the 60's. Please go for the UPVC windows, but do get the curved corner ones right. New wooden windows now will have to be changed for upvc later anyway. This is 2014 and Rothesay is not Brigadoon.

As a regular summer visitor to Bute, the decline suffered by Rothesay has always caused me concern. The Bute House project has gone some way to address this decline. Harry & Hazel Greene's efforts need supporting by the granting permission for their windows, thereby encouraging others to engage in their own projects.

I would think that the people who allowed the eyesore that is the Ferry gangway would have only positive reactions to someone prepared to invest in the seafronts buildings
