Did you know that not all of our city buses have aides?

Bus aides are not currently mandated by NYS but we are trying to get it added to the budget for next year. Please sign this petition to show your support for the need for aides on City of Tonawanda school buses.

We as parents/citizens are requesting that the City of Tonawanda School District place Bus Aides/Bus Monitors on all school buses. This will help ensure the safety of all children riding the school bus within the City of Tonawanda School District. Placing a Bus Aide/Bus Monitor on school buses will help with the supervision of these children and will cut down on behavioral issues that may arise while riding the school bus. The school bus drivers are required to transport children safely without distraction to and from school. They are not required to supervise children while driving a school bus.

All who are signing this petition agree that the City of Tonawanda School District should look into this matter and consider the allocation of funding for the implementation of Bus Aides/Bus Monitors on these school buses, and most importantly keeping our children safe.

There is also a paper petition being circulated. Please only sign ONE- either the paper petition or this online petition. Any City of Tonawanda resident can sign the petition, your kids do not need to attend a COT school to show your support.

Deadline to sign is March 22nd.

Action Petitioned For: We, the undersigned, are concerned parents/citizens who urge the City of Tonawanda School District to act now to place Bus Aides/Bus Monitors on school buses to ensure the safety of our children.

We reached a major milestone today and proved the district cannot ignore our demand for safer buses. Post this link on your Facebook page and text three friends who live in Tonawanda to keep the pressure on our school board members.

I have had two separate concerns this school year, both times they could have been prevented if an aide had been on the bus. Kids are not left alone at home, nor in a car...they shouldn't be left to supervise themselves on a bus. When the bus comes to pick up my son, I have seen kids jumping over seats, bopping other kids in the head. My son has asked me to drive several times as he says its "so loud"...(and I have)

Bus aides are so important because too much goes on in these busses. Someone needs to keep an eye on the kids so that the driver is able to keep their eyes on the road and maintain safe travels for everyone.

I think it is very important! My Grandson was being picked on by an older child and being punched in the arm daily. Bus monitors should be mandatory. Thanks

My 10 year old granddaughter has had several problems on the bus this year. She has been bullied and has told me that the driver is on the phone, talks about Gos and swears. I have called transportation and thr principal but in continues.

As a parent of 3 kids on Riverview buses that have been bullied almost daily, I am happy to sign. We have gotten to the point where we are forced to drive them most days.

I believe a better route for the district is to decrease the amount of busing we offer and push out the walker levels. Then maybe more funds can be allocated to the safety of the buses. Busing is not mandatory and taking funds from education is detrimental. That being said, if the district sees fit to keep busing as many students, I think the safety needs to be addressed. There are ways to think outside of the box too, cameras have helped other districts.

The bullying in our schools is horrible. Can't imagine how bad it must be with no adults around. This is why I drive my kid everyday.

I believe bus aides would be an asset for the elementary schools.
