Dear Mr. Goldring We are residents of Burlington, Ontario, many of us from ward 6. We are writing to you proposing an ammendment to the planned traffic lights at Sutton dr/Upper Middle rd and Mainway/Burloak dr intersections. Facilitate driving and help the environnement at the same time by bringing in round-abouts. The advantages to round-abouts or traffic circles are endless. Thousands of dollars will be saved on hydro and maintenance costs. Carbon dioxide will no longer be released into the air every 300-400 feet by a stopped vehicle at a red light. There will be a much more uniform flow of traffic. Speeding will be decreased as you are required to slow down at every round-about. By beginning with reasonably busy 3 way intersections, the public will become accustomed to manoeuvering them, facilitating the flow all the more. We feel that traffic lights in these location will simply impede traffic, whereas a round-about will allow traffic to keep moving as your only concern is traffic coming from the left, signaling your way out of the traffic circle allows incoming traffic to know your direction. The argument that was posed recently was the difficulty in joining a busy traffic circle. The two locations in question, are 3 way intersections as opposed to 4 way, secondly European cities have thirty times the population and they're manoeuvered very well. As Halton residents become familiarized with them, and realize the ease in getting from one end of the city to the other, many more can be planned at a later date. This petition therefore is requesting you look into this matter at your earliest convenience as the traffic lights are scheduled for this spring. Thanking you in advance, Yours truly,
