The council finally approved the bypass after eighty years of waiting. I am beyond relieved that our streets might finally be safe again for my own children to walk on. We still have one public inquiry to navigate but today marks the victory we fought for.

UPDATE 15th MARCH - The Council have approved the bypass! Your support made a huge difference in showing that this scheme has widespread support. We couldn't have done it without you. We just need to await the outcome of the compulsory purchase order public inquiry now.
Today, however has been a major step forward after waiting for 80 years!!

We, the undersigned, support the building of Banwell's long awaited and much needed bypass along with mitigation measures for the surrounding villages of Winscombe, Sandford and Churchill.
Traffic volumes have increased significantly and continue to increase. Over the last 40+ years Banwell has become infamous as a notorious bottleneck. The bypass is needed now to address our current traffic problems irrespective of future increases in traffic levels.
The lack of a bypass causes issues, such as:- Safety issues for local residents especially due to the narrow roads
- High levels of air pollution from idling traffic
- Physical damage to residents' properties
- Delays for drivers trying to get through the village
We urge North Somerset planners to give the bypass planning approval on the 15th March, 2023!

We just hit five hundred signatures and I am honestly overwhelmed. My parents raised me in this house while the walls shook from the traffic every single day, so seeing this community come together to finally demand change means everything to me.

Watching this signature count climb toward one hundred reminds me how many of us are sick of the gridlock outside our front doors. Can’t believe we are still signing petitions for this. I live in Winscombe (moved from Banwell 20 years ago to avoid the traffic) but would love not to spoil Banwell any longer by driving through its narrow streets.
The road is too small. I live on the single file road and witness road collisions into houses and cars most days. The road is not big enough for lorries! This has been proven time and time again through house damage.
We live on the main road. The fumes are terrible and traffic is backed up just as children are walking to school, so they are breathing it all in. Our house shakes every time a lorry goes past. Something has to be done.
I live on West street and i’m scared to walk down the pavement. road so busy and cars use it like a constant race track. even at night it never calms down. The air quality is also a massive worry. Lorries and huge tractors have no other route and it’s so dangerous
There will never be a better opportunity than this to get the bypass built. In the past funding has always been the issue but the HIF along with NSC have committed tens of millions to get it built. Support them and the village in getting this done.

I was a resident of Banwell for over 15 years. This bypass will bring the village alive as it is dangerous to walk on the pavements at present as cars mount them. I also chose to send my daughter to locking school instead of banwell school due to the herendous traffic.
