Hello fellow badgers! I am a Brock University Student going into my third year. I lease a car with my partner, and we commute from our apartment to Brock, and frequently to the Mississauga/Toronto area. Public transit is useless and a hassle for us.
Yet every year I find myself spending almost $200 on a "Universal Bus Pass" that I will never use. $200 is a lot of gas money. We're at University by our own choice, We should be getting what we want out of this experience.
If we can opt out of the Health and Dental Plan, we should be able to choose to opt out of supporting the Universal Bus Pass.
Let's make some noise badgers, and see if we can make some changes!
Send your personal stories along with your signature! I will be sending the information along to Parking Services!
The least we can do is inform them that there is a large number of students with a strong personal interest in changing how things are done regarding transportation. Hopefully, we can make Parking Services see that the relatively small number of people who want to opt out, should have the right to do so.
UPDATE: PARKING SERVICES/BUSU HAVE BEEN INFORMED BY MYSELF OF OUR CAUSE AND PETITION.
We are now waiting for the first response from the University. Keep the signatures coming!
Such a joke. I don't ask my fellow students to help subsidize my gas and insurance rates. My guess is if this went to court, we'd probably have a case. Maybe we can get someone in the law department to help us out!
