We feel that dressing up for Harvest/Halloween celebrations enforces the imaginative artistic culture that Buckman embraces. We see Halloween as a secular holiday full of imagination and wonder. We welcome any discussions about what Halloween means currently and what it represents to children and American culture. We embrace all children and the freedom of all children to have self-expression in a safe, nourishing environment. We support democratic and inclusive decision making at Buckman. We feel eliminating Halloween dress up makes Buckman less appealing to potential transfer students especially with many other strong, desirable schools embracing the artistry of Halloween (Abernathy, Ainsworth, Winterhaven.)
