I am honestly stunned to share that the restoration plans for our pier have been officially approved. This success belongs entirely to the hundreds of you who kept asking for change when it seemed like no one was listening. I will be keeping a close eye on the construction schedule …

Lets keep the Waverley part of all of our memories and Helensburghs history.

Craigendoran Pier at the East end of Helensburgh was the original home of The Waverley. Now the 2 piers at Craigendoran have been left to rot.

Our pier at Helensburgh is in a dreadful state of repair too.

With all the cruise liners visiting Inverclyde they could be sending vessels over to Helensburgh for passenger visits. Then on to Loch Lomond etc. Instead they hire buses and go straight to Lomond Shores etc.

Our town is no longer the tourist town it used to be.

We need to bring back what made Helensburgh special and encourage visitors to come back.

Perhaps having the Waverley visiting again could be a start.

Pipers, Highland dancers, local groups to welcome cruises visitors and some Waverley trips?

I am honestly overwhelmed by how many of you care about our pier and the Waverley. If each of you could find just one person who loves this town as much as you do and send them this link we might just reach that thousand mark together.

Seeing so many people recognize the importance of our pier has been completely overwhelming to me. This momentum belongs entirely to the community members who kept the conversation going when I was just hoping for a few signatures. I am honestly stunned to see how much this still means to everyone.

I am honestly stunned to see so many people care about our pier. We are nearly at one hundred names so if you have a moment please tell a neighbor about this because it really belongs to all of you.

Very pleased to support this most worthy petition to ensure Helensburgh Pier remains a long term viable calling point for PS Waverley and continue to contribute to the tourist economy of the area. Tim Wardley. Chairman. National Piers Society.

My grandpa caught the ropes and greeted the Waverley into Helensburgh his absolute pride and joy. I have very fond & happy memories as a little girl excited to meet the Waverley with him whenever I visited my grandparents in Helensburgh.

The pier is a vital access point for tourists to Helensburgh and the local area and a safe pier would provide a great opportunity for visiting cruise passengers at Port Glasgow to cross the Clyde and use the local retail and entertainment facilities.

I live in England and have visited and stayed in Helensburgh many times to either board Waverley or to use the former ferry service to/from Gourock/Kilcreggan. Without the pier this tourist will not have a reason to visit, or be able to recommend Helensburgh to others.

former crew member of Waverley and Balmoral piers around the uk are the livelihood of rural communities and towns that bring in money to the local economy and also if u had no piers there would be no historic ships like waverley & Balmoral so helensburgh must be saved

The only seaside town in the world that is going to spend £19 million on a seafront development that shows complete disregard for the pier, the focal point of the town. Councillors beware, the next round of local elections will tell the tale.

Remembering the passing of Carolann Cameron (RIP) Who supported this petition, and loyally loved her home town. Helensburgh deserves this obviously amazing tourist attraction running again. Argyll and Bute (including other departments involved) should make her wishes, including the welcoming people of the town, come to fruition?

Repairing and upgrading the pier is an absolute must so that the iconic paddle steamer Waverley can dock in Helensburgh. This will attract many more visitors and encourage more small businesses to the town and reinstate an important part of Helensburgh's Heritage alongside Henry Bell.
