Plans to permanently remove the Renfrew Ferry will be discussed at a forthcoming budget meeting of Strathclyde Passenger Transport on 22nd Jan. 2010. UPDATE at 22/01/10: SPT today confirmed their plans to close the Renfrew Ferry service from April. This is very disappointing and a slap in the face to everyone who campaigned to keep the Ferry link. But please still consider signing here and adding your voice as I am calling on Scotland's Transport Minister to step in to assist to continue this river crossing. The Scottish Government saved £175m when they axed the Glasgow Airport Rail Link recently. Only the tiniest fraction of that would cover the Ferry losses of £400k a year and keep the Ferry open. It may also encourage a private operator to take up the service.

The stories coming in about daily commutes and family memories remind me why this crossing is more than just a route. I am currently reaching out to local representatives to ensure they understand the scale of what we lose if this service disappears. We must keep pressing for a solution that preserves this vital link.

MY DAD TOOK THIS FERRY TO WORK FOR 30 YEARS. absolute joke they want to scrap it now.
it is a vital link for renfrew. stop taking away our transport.
This ferry is part of our heritage. You cant just get rid of it because of some budget spreadsheet. Keep it running.
Been using this since i was a wee girl visiting my gran. dont let it close please.
400k is nothing compared to the waste they throw away on other projects. fix it.

Ridiculous decision. Traffic is bad enough as it is without loosing the ferry crossing. Think of the commuters for once.
