No explanation needed here, but we need to bring this to the NLESD'S attention, that school times of this early is preposterous. There is absolutely no need for a child to have to get a bus 7:20am in the morning, being out of bed by 6am, or earlier. Did they get up in time? Did they have time to have a good breakfast? Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and they need that to help concentrate at school. Did they have a restless night, the night before? Did they get addiquiate sleep? Chances are by midday, those kids are having trouble staying awake because their body is not well rested.

Dr. Elliott Lee agrees. He is a psychiatrist and sleep expert at the sleep clinic at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. He says statistics show up to 70% of kids are sleep-deprived, well above the national average. "When school starts early then we really predispose them to having more problems with sleep deprivations which affects their academic performance, social interactions, and even exacerbates mood and anxiety problems," he says

Lee says kids are not wired like adults. "They have a different biological sleep need than adults," he says. They have a need to go to sleep later and wake up later."

Bring the school times back to normal for Persalvic. We are the children's voice. Let's be heard!!!!

I have been reading your comments about the exhaustion our kids face every single morning. It breaks my heart to know so many families are struggling to get their children out the door before the sun is even fully up. I am currently putting together a formal summary of these experiences to present to the district leadership.

Seeing this kind of movement confirms that so many of you are watching your kids struggle with these exhaustion levels every single morning. I started this because I am tired of seeing my own child crash by the afternoon, and reading your stories proves we are fighting for the same thing.

These are outrageous hours to be dragging small children out of their warm beds! A tired brain cannot properly hold knowledge. This not only affects their rest, it will throw their whole system out of whack! It will change their eating habits, exercise and play times. Being the mother of a handicapped child, I cannot imagine how parents of children with disabilities are coping.

Honestly this is really not the best thinking. The kids get out of school before high school. What if the parent\guardian is pending on the big brother or sister to care for the child after school? This is putting so many people at a loss.

As a grade 8 student at persalvic even I fall asleep by mid day! Can't imagine how the younger students feel being tired themselves let alone watching the senior class falling asleep ! Need changes

For my brother. He is 11 years old and has to wake up 10 to 6 to catch his bus for 7:20 and then has a half hour drive to school. Then gets home and has to do two hours of homework! Not fair, kids will be too sleep deprived to achieve the adequate grades.

I couldn't believe it when my daughter told me that the kids (my grandkids age 6&5) have to be picked up at 720 this is outrageous. They will be to tired when they get home to do homework. What happened to regular hours 9-3. With 2 periods before recess,2 periods after recess and 3 periods after lunch????

I think the school time should be changed back to normal. Due to the change in the time I have put my child in a different school. My child has mental health issues and as it is now I have a job waking him up for 7-730am. I refuse to add to the bad day that he is going to have.
