Classes at Hull High School start at 7:25 a.m. Meaning on an average school day a student from Hull High would have to wake up at around 6 a.m. to get ready for school, and catch the bus to learn for a full 7 hours. After learning for 7 hours most students have to go attend after school activities, which usually last for 2-3 hours. Once attending school activities students come home to a handful of school work that averagely take around 1-4 hours to complete. Some students from Hull High have claimed they've had to stay up till 12 a.m. in order to complete their homework. It has been claim by scientist that teens need an average of 8.5 to 9.5 hours of sleep at night, though the daily school routine doesn't allow the average Hull High student to have those 8.5 to 9.5 hours of sleep. In general it is difficult for most teens to go to sleep early enough to get sufficient rest before an early school start time. Sleep deprivation increases the risk of health problems such as obesity, depression and substance abuse, and also impairs students abilities to concentrate and learn new material. The mental and physical health of students should be the highest priority of our schools. It is time to speak up and make a difference. Hull High School Students are calling to make immediate changes, so that school can start at a healthier time.

-by starting school earliar that doesn't means we end school later

7:25 is way too early, struggling to keep my eyes open in 1st period honestly makes it impossible to actually learn anything

On most nights I stay up till 3-4am completing homework which leaves me 2 hours of aleep(if that) and even though I get my work done, my grades suffer from lack of sleep. I need more sleep!!! It will not only help my mental state, but my grades would most likely improve, and I could stay awake all day rather than falling asleep in class.

The time I go to sleep some nights due to homework/school work in general is unreal. Even just half an hour would make it a lot better.

Students who participate in either extracurricular activities or other outside activities find it hard to save time to do the amount of homework they are assigned. In most cases we end up having to stay up late just to get our homework assignments in on time. With this extra time we could get time to sleep that was previously taken by homework. This extra time could also improve our performance at school. With extra sleep we are more likely to focus in class if we are not exausted from a lack of sleep.

I believe that students would benefit mentally from being able to sleep longer and rest well enough to perform well in earlier period classes if given ample time before school
