It was confirmed there will be no formal 8th grade graduation/promotion ceremony at YMS this year for the graduating class of 2014. This has been a time-honored tradition every year and the decision was made citing parking/crowd issues causing it to be unsafe. Also, it has lost the meaning. Please sign this petition.
The momentum behind this is incredible. It shows exactly how much this ceremony means to our community.

I am truly dissappointed about how this was decided. Everything that happens in this district is voted upon. Now they decide to make this a dictatorship. My daughter was looking forward to her Graduation. The kids should keep this Celebration as tradition.

Disappointed considering I based our whole move around waiting until our daughter "graduated" 8th grade to be with her friends since Kindergarten. Such a shame Yorkville once again fails it's community.

I hope they come up with a solution for this my son was looking forward to it. But on the other hand we were at last years and if you didn't get there and hour and a half early then you were not going to get a seat and families were standing all over the place and that class was some 410 kids this year its 500 some and it was a mess getting out. maybe split it alphabetically

I agree that if YMS can hold an Arts Festival for the entire district then I believe that the school can manage the 8th grade families whom have done everything to support YMS and their children! Don't take away a milestone they deserve and worked hard for!

Yorkville Middle School...the beautiful, blue, big school. I have hundreds of great memories in that school. One of the most IMPORTANT memories was the 8th grade graduation ceremony. Please keep this ceremony in honor of all the talented, bright students who will be high schoolers next year AND for YMS's legacy.

I do not have a child at this school right now, but I don't think this is right. Children have been working toward a goal of graduatiing from 8th grade for generations. It's a right of passage, please don't take this away from them. If parking is the issue, host it at another location for goodness sake!
