The department has confirmed that a dedicated cafe space will be included in the upcoming building renovations. This outcome reflects the power of our collective commitment to restoring a vital social hub for our community. I look forward to seeing how this new environment improves our daily life on campus.
A few weeks ago, our MechSoc welfare launch raised a number of issues- and this is one of them! Those of you in third and fourth year of MechEng will remember the MechEng Cafe on the seventh floor and the benefits we all got out of it. The Cafe was a convenient place to meet up and buy food at lunchtimes or between lectures and provided a relaxed atmosphere. Think smooth radio playing, friends chatting and sofas. With the department building renovations, the BOSS became the MechEng cafe's replacement. However, as many have expressed the BOSS is far too small too cater for the over 600 undergraduate students and tries to provide a place for both work and lunch with little success. After bringing this up with highly placed members of staff in the department, we were advised that with evidence (i.e this petition), a new MechEng Cafe could be integrated into the building plans. If you agree with this, regardless of which year you are in, sign below!
Business school cafe puts far too much emphasis on pretense, and not enough on good cheap food

Would be beneficial for students to have it back! It was a real pity that I didn't have access to it during my final year.

Some of my fondest memories of my time here will be the hilarious times spent in the level 7 cafe. Its the equivalent of Central Perk in friends. Im sure it would mean the world to the incoming undergrads... Even if they don't know it yet

'Twas a much better rustic spot to chill, than the congested and overall plastic-ey feel of BOS.

the MechEng cafe was a great place to relax properly!- something incredibly difficult to do nowadays at BOSS when lots of us are doing project work on all the tables.
