Transport for London has suspended bus route 170 westbound between Battersea Church Road and Lombard Road.

The reason for the suspension is that the new fleet of buses introduced by TfL on this route exceed the height restriction at the Cremorne Railway Bridge on Lombard Road.

It is unacceptable that TfL have failed to consider the height restrictions of the railway bridge in introducing its new buses, and have now withdrawn the 170 service without notice.

Many local residents depend on this vital service, particularly during the winter months.

Accordingly, the undersigned hereby demand that Transport for London immediately reinstate the 170 bus service westbound along Battersea Church Road, Vicarage Crescent and Lombard Road.

Transport for London is avoiding our questions because they know they messed up by ignoring basic road height limits. I am currently hounding their offices for a real answer instead of the silence they think we will accept. They are about to find out that residents here will not let them cut off our access this easily.

Please make sure this bus route is put back and in use again. I am in a wheelchair and it is too far for me to push home - to vicarage crescent - from other bus stops!!!!! And it is vital that I have to use th bus. Why has it been stopped????

What about elderly, disabled and less mobile neighbours along this route? There is no alternative service. TFL should reinstate, either by using a correctly sized bus for the route or by digging out the road so that the new buses safely meet the height restriction.

We fought hard to get this service in the first place ! It can’t be withdrawn without any consultation or alternative ...it’s also a much safer walk to vicarage cres /Lombard rd than along Battersea High st ... especially in the dark late at night !

I am a resident of Vicarage Crescent. This is the only public transport which serves Vicarage Crescent and the Battersea Square area and as such is essential to the residents of the area. Please sort out this mess and re-instate the service.

This bus is our life-line. For residents living in Vicarage Crescent, there is a very long walk to any other service. If the bus can pass under the RR arch coming from Clapham Junction, why can't it pass under the arch going west?

This is a crucial bus for us to get to work in the mornings, especially when the weather is awful. We pay £130 a month as part of our travel to use this service and for there to not even be any notice given about this change, is dreadful! Get our bus back!
