We are petitioning for Raffles school management to reverse their decision to move to digital books and keep physical original books as primary source of learning material for our lower primary school kids. Reasons are as follows:
- Digital Books add to unnecessary additional screen time (which is already exorbitant due to HBL)
- Young learners still require colourful illustrations and pictures to motivate their learning (thus why black and white photocopies are not acceptable)
- Young learners are still perfecting motoric handwriting skills, which they don't get by doing all their work online!
- School books are included in our school fees (we paid for PHYSICAL ORIGINAL books, NOT digital books and NOT poor quality photocopies)
OUR PETITION:
- Provide PHYSICAL BOOKS for all subjects where the books are currently available in the market (Maths, Science, Chinese, Bahasa, PPKN)
- Once the new syllabus English books are available, please make the PHYSICAL BOOKS available for the kids
- For the English books not available yet, please provide CLEAR, IN COLOUR photocopies that are clear and legible
- SEPARATE book fees from our school fees in the future - this will give parents the choice to buy physical books should the school insist on only providing digital books

how do the kids annotate on the digital LB? the implementation of digital books in Raffles KJ is so rough and one sided. Also the ways the management has chosen to ignore and shut off parents concern is impeccable.
Prefer to have a physical books my kids found is hard to use one device while opening the book it self and keep the camera on in zoom usually it will automatically shutdown the camera
please return our textbooks. we are still children and need a printed book with beautiful pictures in the book it makes us happy to learn…don't damage our eyes with ebook
Please bring back actual textbooks. It is really hard to navigate these digital textbooks for p2 students. They require help from their parents all the time and this is putting more burden towards parents who already have too much on our plate due to home learning.
If Raffles want to go with the digitalization era please do starts from the upper level.. Please don't start from primary level espc. lower primary. First our child needs to adapt with the online learning, then the ebooks comes as a substitution of physical books. Raffles should understand that we are now in an emergency situation, please do consider first before the action is taken.. The kids STILL NEED to adapt to the online learning and now they need to adapt to ebooks. I do believe that some of the students are still struggling to adapt with this online learning, so please don't make this harder for us all. I seek for your understanding, Raffles school. Thank you.

Using digital books for Primary Students is not suitable yet. Primary students age need physical books that they can write and highlight. Furthermore, during this pandemic, Online school have cause enough exposure for their eyes. Digital books could make it worst. Thank you.
