Helme Chase saved my life where Lancaster traumatised it. The really looked after me and helped me breastfeed - i'd not have managed it with out their support.
We really need a 24hr service at Kendal. It helps relieve the pressure off Lancaster and Barrow. It is also lovely to be able to return to Helme Chase if having given birth at the other 2 hospitals, for some rest and help.
I'm so sad I couldn't have my baby at Helme Chase (due to the quick discharge in the new system) and get the same aftercare that I'd heard friends rave about
Without the excellent post natal care of HCMU we would have been lost. The health and well being of our little boy is thanks to the great job done at HCMU on a 24 hour basis.
24 hr maternity service is vital for this extensive rural area. an on call service is neither reassuring to service users and there families, or efficient. care should be "closer to home" not over an hours drive away!! the midwives at the helme chase unit offer excellant care and the helme chase facility was kitted put to a very high standard. please bring the 24 hour service back!
I'm lost for words! Why would anyone think it's ok to run a maternity unit on a part time basis?

it's so sad to see this happening to helme chase it found my birth and stay with my first child unbelievable words can't describe the care in got. I am expecting my second and was really hoping for helme chase again.
