I'm lost for words! Why would anyone think it's ok to run a maternity unit on a part time basis?

Maternity care essential in KENDAL to far to travel to Lancaster & Barrow's had a lot of bad press which would scare any mother to be or new mother .

Give them a chance, make them equipped for every type of birth, taking the pressure off Lancaster and barrow. which barrow has a very poor reputation

it's so sad to see this happening to helme chase it found my birth and stay with my first child unbelievable words can't describe the care in got. I am expecting my second and was really hoping for helme chase again.

The new maternity arrangements in the area are what have caused me the most anxiety in pregnancy and this continues to worry me with only 3weeks to go. I have been sent to barrow for out of hours checks from my home in Arnside - Lancaster always appears full so we face a 2hour commute. I hope the arrangements are altered in future. The idea of being asked to leave Kendal hours after having a baby is frightening. Not a good start for a first time mum.

This was an essential 24hr maternity service in a county that had failed to provide adequate services. Now is not the time to play with service provision to expectant mothers

Helme Chase saved my life where Lancaster traumatised it. The really looked after me and helped me breastfeed - i'd not have managed it with out their support.

We really need a 24hr service at Kendal. It helps relieve the pressure off Lancaster and Barrow. It is also lovely to be able to return to Helme Chase if having given birth at the other 2 hospitals, for some rest and help.

This is 1of the best maternity units in Cumbria. So sad today's mum's to be can't experience the care I received when I had my 4 children.

I'm so sad I couldn't have my baby at Helme Chase (due to the quick discharge in the new system) and get the same aftercare that I'd heard friends rave about

Without the excellent post natal care of HCMU we would have been lost. The health and well being of our little boy is thanks to the great job done at HCMU on a 24 hour basis.
