United States Forest Service Campgrounds contribute greatly to
the local Bridgeport economy. We realize that the resources that are
used to keep campgrounds open are limited, but this closure of the
most popular campground in the fall is a step backwards.
● October 10th, 2015 will be the end of the season for
Bridgeport businesses. As a community, we need the extra few
weeks with this campground. We are hoping the petition will
accomplish having Robinson Creek North open through the last
Saturday in October (weather permitting).
● Robinson Creek North is the most popular campground for
many out of town campers. They share Bridgeport’s frustration
with the closing of this campground at the peak of the fall
season. We have received countless letters and comments
about this issue.
Robinson Creek North closed October 12th, 2014 even
though the weather was beautiful, the passes were open and
people wanted to camp.
During that time only Matterhorn, Sawtooth loop and Crags
group sites were open. Robinson Creek’s host, Virginia Lakes’
host and Regional Managers were all in the Crags area. As a
community we were left in question with three hosts in the Crags
area as it was very slow.
● A large majority of Bridgeport outdoor enthusiasts enjoy
Robinson Creek campgrounds in the fall. Last season many
campers chose not to move to another campground, but instead
to go home because of the closure. The fall season of 2014 was
a rough one for the Bridgeport community. Robinson Creek
North is essential to keeping October a successful month for
Westrek and USFS, as well as, Bridgeport businesses. We all
lose when this campground closes so early in October.
Please sign this petition to let the Westrek Management Services
and the United States Forest Service know that we need them to
understand that this closure is hurting the Bridgeport Community.
Not only does it help the town of Bridgeport, the fall is a serene beauty! USFS campgrounds are public land, listen to the public speak and keep it open!
