Hello! Thank you for taking the time to read! We're petitioning to make body cameras not only available but a requirement for our police officers in Anne Arundel County. Why? Because it's been proven to benefit both citizens and officers in their line of duty.

For example The Bureau of Justice Assistance paid for Phoenix Police Department to invest just $500,000 "to purchase, deploy and evaluate police body worn cameras." Then data over the course of implementation was collected and researched found:

1. Officer productivity increased from 9% to 17% when measured in rate of lawful arrest

2. Complaints against officers decreased by 23%, and those filed had video evidence to analyze the situation

3. When officers work with cameras domestic violence cases were more likely to be pursued and result in filed charges

Relations between police and the communities they serve can only be repaired with trust and accountability. This will take much conversation, change and growth, but having objective recollections of interactions can be a start! So please, sign and share, for our county!

Anne Arundel County PD must do something to help our epidemic of black and brown AMERICAN community members dying across our nation. Body cameras used properly is one way to start protecting them.

As a resident of Glen Burnie, I fully support this vitally necessary step. Implementation of police body cams is long overdue in Anne Arundel County and all across this nation. There is no reason not to approve this measure.

I grew up in Anne Arundel County and spent a majority of my life harassed by law enforcement in an unnecessary way. I believe that cameras would decrease police harassment and cut down on police brutality.

Body cameras are necessary. They keep police officers safe from false accusations and the people of our county safe from unnecessary force. Please please please spend the money for the police department in our county to have and require them to use body cameras.

This only works if the cameras stay on. This is for the public safety so that they don't have to fear the cops won't be held accountable for their mistakes. And this is for the sake of the cops so that they can think twice and not make the mistakes that put the public's trust in them in jeopardy.

As an Anne Arundel County resident, it is highly concerning to me that our police department is not equipped with body cameras, something that is a standard practice in several other states in this country and is one of the most basic measures that needs to be taken towards lowering instances of police brutality. Maryland has the 8th highest rate of unarmed black people facing police brutality of all states in this country, and the fact that many counties do not have body cameras is likely a large driving factor of this.

Body cameras provide an unbiased witness to every police interaction.

Signing because Eddie didn't take his own life in Anne Arundel County, but police mishandled evidence and witnesses. https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/mans-family-petitions-for-homicide-investigation And Kathy's situation is similar: https://m.forkathyssake.com/ Signing because Anne Arundel police have conducted illegal, race-based traffic stops. They told one Black driver they pulled him over because he had priors. Signing because these individuals should not have been treated this way in Anne Arundel County: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNgc3IK695BrFl23F1vl6bQ And when people advocate for individuals, the current Anne Arundel police chief treats then with disregard: https://www.arundelpatriot.org/2020/06/18/winking-smirking-anne-arundel-county-police-chief-caught-on-camera-mocking-a-black-woman-activist/
