Please sign your name and the county you live in if you agree that law enforcement officers should legally be required to wear & use their body cams. Especially if they already have them.
Wearing and using a body cam protects both the officer and the civilians in every situation.
Wearing a body cam could potentially cut costs for the county by having live video evidence readily available.
I am unaware of any negative impacts that wearing a body cams would inflict on the officer and the individuals they are hired to protect and serve.
Wearing a badge, having a weapon and the title of a law enforcement officer is a huge responsibility and with huge responsibility needs to come accountability. The badge, the weapon and the title should not be “get off free” cards. We have the ability and technology to be able to have video protection for all parties involved.

I am currently organizing the collected signature data to present to the state legislature committee. My next step involves drafting a formal letter to local officials to demand a review of existing camera usage policies.

The current level of interest has allowed me to secure a formal meeting with representatives from the local police oversight committee. I am now finalizing the policy proposal draft that will be presented to address the implementation of body cameras across Iowa.

I live in Polk county, south side of Des Moines, Iowa. Far too often it's our word against theirs, unacceptable. I had a South Side Sargent named Officer Mann threaten to shoot me once merely because my head touched his shoulder. It was witnessed by a rookie that is under him & a neighbor who was in her back yard. I filed a report with the office of professional standards & took the witness with me, the rookie obviously lied & said he didn't hear it when all the while he was standing right beside Officer Mann. I was later told by the Sargent from professional standards that officer Mann was a germaphobe & NOTHING came of it. Body cams should be enforced here in Polk county as well as throughout the state of Iowa

I can’t see a downside to requiring police officers to wear a body camera. It shows exactly what happens. It helps the police officer prove that his actions were appropriate.

Should have cameras on all 4 sides of their police cruiser too! Those body cameras should not be operated via the officers either. Any disputes should always be handled by a 3rd party. Never the same agency. So local police in NW Iowa should be investigated via SE Iowa Sheriff or Trooper for example. Or firm in SE Iowa. So there's no conflict of interest. If there is or constitutional rights violations? Penalties should be enhanced.

This is not only important for the safety of civilians but also that of officers who do a good job!

This brings more accountability to both the officer and the other person. I really can’t imagine why any law enforcement officer would be against this as it would be for his or her protection.

Except for the bathroom and other things, they should be on at all times they should not have the option to just turn it on and off whenever they feel like it.

Sometimes it also exposes the dirty cops so it’s definitely needed regardless
