It actually happened and Bill 74 is moving forward which feels wild honestly. I am sitting here staring at the screen processing the news because for a long time I really thought we were just shouting into the void but you all proved me wrong. Keep watching the legislative proceedings …
High rates of poverty impact every age group and family type in Nova Scotia.
People who live in poverty lack the basic income for a minimum standard of wellbeing. In Nova Scotia over 131,000 people lived in poverty in 2004. Political attention to this issue has been sporadic and unfocused.
We, the undersigned of this petition, urge the following party leaders: Hon. Rodney MacDonald, Premier of Nova Scotia (PC) , Darrell Dexter, Leader of the Opposition (NDP), and Michel P. Samson, Interim Leader (LIB) to work collaboratively regarding Bill No. 74, An Act to Establish a Committee to Develop a Poverty Reduction Strategy in Nova Scotia introduced as a Private Members Bill by Stephen McNeil, MLA for Annapolis, on November 2, 2006.
We are petitioning you as political party caucus leaders within the Nova Scotia Legislative Assembly to review and improve the status of Bill 74 so that it may be provided with the opportunity for quick passage into legislation.
We are petitioning you to make the alleviation of poverty in Nova Scotia a priority.
I just blinked and noticed we hit 500 signatures which honestly feels like way more than I ever imagined when I started typing this thing out in my kitchen. It is wild to think about that many people actually agreeing that this strategy needs to happen and I keep finding myself just staring at the screen processing it all (is this real life).

Just look around halifax. You can see the struggle every day. Stop ignoring people who are falling through the cracks.

Politicians talk and talk but nothing ever happens. Pass the bill already and help some actual families.

Living in NS is getting way too expensive. Rent is high and food prices are through the roof. Do something.
