There has been a tragic accident where a 12 year old local boy lost his life by going into the river saving two of his friends. This is a parents worse nightmare. As many families and teenagers use this area to either play or hang around on maybe a fence round the weir would be benificial to stop accidents like this happen again...let's keep this lads spirit alive by preventing this happening again
The petition has reached one hundred signatures today. This response reflects the community desire to prevent further tragedy at the weir.

Unfortunately this is not the 1st time someone has died from falling in the water here. It's about time people were properly protected. Please fence off Beeston Weir before another tradegy occurs!

I'm amazed that this area has escaped health and safety assessment! Please review following the tragic loss of Owen Jenkins, and reduce the potential for any future tragedy.

I know this child and it saddens me to think this could have been prevented if a barrier was but up beeston and clifton side. So many children spend there holidays down there playing near the water

It's been an accident waiting to happen for years and it's a shame it's taken such a tragic event and the loss of a young boy with his whole life ahead of him for action to be taken. RIP Owen

This should not need to be up for a petition. Fence it of to prevent access onto the weir. I fish down there and in the past have managed to pursuede children to not go onto there but they don't always listen unfortunately. My thought are with Owens family I've not been able to think of much else today.
