The Young Muslims of Selden would like to request funds from the Masjid executive board to buy four basketball hoops to place in the parking lot. We need these hoops as a modern Masjid requires these facilities to attract the younger generations to the Masjid. It is a necessity for Selden Masjid to fund this otherwise they risk losing the youth to other places. We need the youth to stay in the Masjid and spend their time here rather than any other location since the Masjid is the best place to be.
We would like to purchase three in-ground systems and one portable system. They would be fixed height so that the younger kids cannot mess with the height and damage them. The in-ground systems will be more sturdy and reliable than the portable system. The portable system would be bought so we can move it across from one of the in-ground hoops to play a full court basketball game.
The cost for the hoops is around $1100 each for the in-ground ones and about $500 for the portable one. We would also require a lock to put on the hoops to decrease the improper use of the hoops. The key to the lock would stay in the office and Hafiz Amin, the executive board, the weekend school administrations, and the youth group leaders would have access to the keys to the locks. The total cost would come up to $4000 for the equipment.
We hope that this petition can show you the number of people that will benefit from this project. We appreciate your efforts to create a safe space for Muslim youth to grow in at the Masjid.

I was looking at the list of names and it just hit me how many people actually want gym time in the parking lot. It is kind of wild that we have this much momentum now because I was honestly worried the board would just brush us off but seeing everyone come together makes me think they might actually listen.

Great idea. The kids need a place to hang out that isnt the mall or just sitting at home. Basketball is perfect for this.
finally some action for the youth in selden. keep them off the streets and in our community where they belong.
