Recently, a multi-family coalition in our community banded together to purchase a quality basketball hoop for our local children given the rigors of the pandemic, closure of in person school and lack of an adequate and sanitary pocket park for outdoor exercise and activity in our district of Aviano. Desert Ridge has levied a violation warning which may result in fines or removal of the hoop. As the hoop is a direct action on behalf of our community’s children, their physical and mental health, and the lack of response by Desert Ridge on prior petition requests to revamp the pocket park in our neighborhood, we are seeking your support on this petition to immediately suspend action by the desert ridge board to remove this hoop and any associated fees to the households managing it. This would apply at least until such time that pandemic restrictions on activity and in person schooling lift AND/OR the desert ridge board takes action upon the prior community request to furnish an adequate and relevant pocket park for our children. At such time, the status of the hoop would be reevaluated by the community with the Desert Ridge board. Given the times, and the benefit of outdoor activity to our children’s mental and physical health in these trying and unprecedented times, we appreciate your consideration and support on this matter.
